Thomas Jefferson, the 3rd President of the United States of America, once wrote, “Nothing can stop the man with the right mental attitude from achieving his goal; nothing can help the man with the wrong mental attitude.”
Do you know, he was right. Research studies suggest that a positive mental attitude accounts for 80% of success in any arena of life. Yet many people continue to display a bad negative attitude at home, work and play.
But you can improve your attitude to enhance your chances of success. By success I mean a progressive realisation of the goals you set to live your dreams.
Attitude is the way you think, talk and act towards people, money, work and things. Your thoughts influence what you say and how you say it. These solidify into beliefs that may liberate or limit you. Your beliefs determine your actions and the results you get in life. Thus 80% of success or failure can be traced to attitude. Successful people have learned to improve their attitude to help them get better results and you can too.
Here are 4 ways
1. Desire to improve
Desire is the first step to achieving anything. If you don’t desire success then why bother? You succeed to benefit yourself and perhaps those around you.
Without this hunger and thirst, a longing and yearning for self-improvement, you will not make the effort to do what it takes to improve. Most people don’t go after what they don’t want or aspire to have. Therefore desire is a necessary first step to improving your attitude for success.
2. Decide to improve
Having a desire or aspiration to improve your attitude, you must then decide, by choice to improve. Without a firm decision most of us would wish or want to improve without coming to a definite conclusion to improve. Without this personal resolve to improve we won’t take the necessary action needed to improve and there would be no improvement or change
3. Determine to improve
Many of us fear change. It is scary and uncomfortable wading into uncertain territory. We prefer our known environments even if they are less than ideal. At least we know what to expect. However, without a firm determination and resolve to improve, we can’t commit to taking action and improving. Determination is settling the issue once and for all, whatever it takes to change. It is a place of no return or an unwavering commitment to improve.
4. Do it now
Having determined to improve your attitude for the better, you can choose a more positive attitude than the one you so far display. For example, you know the areas where negative or less than appropriate attitude has cost you.
For some people a bad negative attitude towards money can cost them the opportunity to make, save or have money. Some people harbour negative attitude about relationships and this has cost them in conflicts, alienation and broken relationships. At work, negative attitude has cost many dearly in missed opportunities for employment and promotions. Some have had to change careers because of negative attitude while some people were fired or dismissed for displaying a bad negative attitude.
When you count the cost of negative attitude, many will agree that an urgent improvement in attitude to work and work colleagues, friends, relatives, money and career is called for. Why wait? Now is the best time to change and improve your attitude for the better. There you have it, four simple ways to improve attitude and enhance your prospects for success.
